On Thanksgiving morning I woke up with a grateful heart and was inspired to write + post about Thanksgiving day saying how grateful I am for the moments where I let go and let God. Check it out here. Little did I know God was about to take me seriously. Let me just say Instagram vs Reality is where it’s at!
I drove to the park to get my workout done before the day got started. We had a day full of beach activities and grilling with friends ahead. After running the first loop a sharp pain (like knifes going in and out of my body) started to get stronger and stronger on the lower left side of my abdomen. Pain so strong I could’t stand up another second. I headed straight to my car as tears began to pour out of control. Once I got home and was able to ball my eyes out until I felt like the pain decreased. So I laid on my couch and fell asleep.
Jeff got home after training his clients and was able to check up on me. I’m used to dealing with pain and refuse to take any sort of medicine, I’m very stubborn when it comes to that. Things had calmed down a bit so I just told myself that I had “nothing” and carried on with our plans.
As we we’re chatting, laughing and brunching the pain started to come back even sharper! Tears poured out again and had to ask Jeff to cancel everything because we might have to head straight to the ER. Being Thanksgiving day it was our only option.
Long story short, I laid in bed, cried my eyes out holding my husband’s hand as he massaged my tummy hoping it would make me stop screaming! The first thing you do is Google it, right? It turns out there are one million reasons why this kind of pain could happen but the #1 match to all of my symptoms was Diverticulitis – inflammation of the large intestine. Knowing what it was put my mind at ease since the fastest way to recover was to rest. So I had nothing left to do but to LET GO AND LET GOD. My body felt sore for the next few days so I made sure to sit back and relax that weekend.
As bad of a Thanksgiving story this may seem, it was a big blessing for me! I was able to practice what I preach and let go of control. And just like any other hardship, it brought me even closer to my husband. I truly counted my blessings that day and I went to bed a million times more grateful than when I woke up.
I hope this reminds you that no matter how bad of a day you’re having, this too, will pass. God has your back, let go and let Him do the rest!
