Hi guys! Hope everyone is off to great Holiday weekend! It’s crazy we’re half way through the year and the festivities have already begun. This time around I wanted to share with you why, as a Mexican, July 4th is now a special day for me as well. As most of you already know, 2 yrs ago I married the love of my life and moved to Los Angeles for good. Growing up in Cancun and having constant interaction with Americans, I thought that my knowledge regarding the USA was pretty broad. This changed rapidly when my husband who’s very much into History and happens to know more facts than most historians (Seriously. If you know him I know you’re dying laughing right about now) began to share with me the depths of what it really means to be an American. Granted, Jeff is very passionate about life so it was easy for me to fall in love with his facts. I’m so blessed to have married someone that shares that same passion for my own Country as well. I always joke that I married an American with a Latin heart! He knows how dance salsa, make the best guacamole and drink more Mezcal than me. But this is another story I’ll be sharing when Mexico’s independence day (Sep. 16th) comes around. These are the 5 things I now embrace and hold close to my heart:
- Freedom – If I had to describe the US in one word it will definitely be Freedom. Free to pursue my hearts desires.
- Opportunity – I know the American Dream is cliche but it’s something I strongly identify with this Country. Not because of simply living here but because of the culture and mentality that it provides. It’s so inspiring to see just how far your dreams can take you here.
- The Passion – This is one of the things that I love the most, the passion and pride of it’s people. Wether it’s business, sports, entertainment, etc, they give it their best.
- Perseverance – Success takes time, patience and dedication. For years this Country has been growing and persevering through all of it’s trials and tribulations only to come out stronger each time.
- E pluribus unum – Out of many, one. Its main strength! No other place in the world has so many people from so many places that come together and end up stronger because of it.
We’ll be celebrating all of the above, playing volleyball at the beach and grilling with friends. Long weekend equals short week! This in itself is a blessing. I’m forever grateful to be able to now call it Home and look forward to the day we raise our kids with both cultures, the Beauty and Flavor of Mexico along with the Passion and Freedom of the US.
Cheers!
